Google Ships Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and 3.5 Flash Cyber

Google releases three additions to the Gemini Flash family, targeting speed-sensitive and cost-sensitive workloads alongside a cybersecurity-focused variant.

Google has released three models under the Gemini Flash umbrella: Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, and Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber.

The Flash line has consistently been Google's answer to latency and cost constraints. Gemini 3.6 Flash sits at the top of this batch and likely represents a capability step over the prior 3.5 Flash, while staying within the latency profile that makes Flash useful for real-time pipelines and high-throughput inference.

Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite is the obvious pick for builders running at scale where token cost per request matters more than peak capability. Lite variants in this family trade some headroom on complex reasoning for significantly lower inference cost. If you are running classification, summarization, or routing tasks at volume, this is the tier to benchmark first.

Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber is the more notable addition. A domain-specialized model aimed at cybersecurity use cases is a meaningful signal. Security-specific LLMs have been explored by others, but releasing one under a major production API changes the accessibility calculus for teams building threat analysis, vulnerability triage, or detection engineering tooling. The practical question is whether the specialization shows up in structured output quality and reasoning over CVEs, MITRE ATT&CK content, and log data versus a general-purpose model with a system prompt.

All three are accessible through Google AI Studio and the Gemini API. The announcement confirms availability but specific context window sizes, pricing tiers, and benchmark comparisons should be verified directly in the release notes before committing to an architecture decision.

For solo founders and small teams, Flash-Lite keeps low-cost experimentation viable. For security tooling builders, Flash Cyber is worth a direct evaluation against your existing prompting approach on domain-specific tasks.
