This is a supply-side signal, not a product decision. When a lab gates access because inference load exceeds available compute, it tells you something about actual adoption velocity rather than marketed intent. K3 is pulling real traffic.

For engineers evaluating Chinese frontier models, K3 joins a short list of models — alongside DeepSeek's recent releases and Qwen iterations — that are generating enough production demand to stress infrastructure at scale. That pressure typically resolves in one of two ways: the lab scales compute to match demand, or it throttles access until it can. Moonshot chose the latter temporarily.
